Two years of vegetarianism
After being an enthusiasic canivore for pretty exactly a quarter of a century, I decided to stop eating meat in July 2011. My first goal was to cut back on eating meat, but soon I realized that going cold turkey was the easier way. For me, there a three import reasons for a vegetarian diet:
- Ecological: Breeding cattle wastes a lot of resources and livestock produces greenhouse gasses.
- Economical: Meat is expensive (or actually it is not, but you wouldn't want to eat cheap meat. Won't you?)
- Ethical: Someone once told me that killing is wrong. Since I am conviced that eating meat is not neccessary to live a healthy live, killing for food itself is not neccessary and thus it's done for pleasure. Killing for pleasure? Didn't sound ethical to me.
And by the way, cooking with meat is too easy. Of course, you can do it wrong, but to create delicious vegetarian food it takes more wits than putting a piece of dead animal in the frying pan. Discovering all the really awesome dishes that I never tried before was a real enrichment of my life. I don't look back.
